Communication
Communicating effectively with parents is one of the top priorities at Western Grammar School. We believe that a child’s school and home must collaborate in order to properly educate and improve them. To this end, WGS uses several communication methods to keep parents up to date with their child’s progress:
Western Grammar School sends out informative notes and letters to parents to keep them updated with changes or requirements. This can include excursion notes, syllabus and timetables, admin reminders and more. These notes are given to the students to take home several times a term.
One of our primary methods of updating parents on their child’s progress and the events in the school is through our school newsletter which is published twice a term. Find out more and check out our latest issues here.
For quick important updates, WGS will often send out text messages to parents. Our system messages only one of the parents of any child. If you would like to change who receives the messages or if circumstances require that both parents are added as recipients, please contact us and let us know.
At the end of each term, Western Grammar School arranges Parent Teacher Interview sessions for all classes. These interviews are an integral part of our communication system and are an irreplaceable method of keeping both parents and teachers informed. Primary students are given specific timings during these sessions while parents of High School students are met with on a first come, first serve basis unless otherwise notified.
Aside from Parent Teacher Interviews, other meetings between teachers and parents can be arranged if necessary. These meetings can be used to clarify problems, discuss changes or more. If you would like to have a meeting with your child’s teacher or with another staff member, please contact us to arrange a suitable time.
For short reminders and quick comments, teachers will often write notes to parents in the child’s diary, where parents can reply if they choose. It is important that parents of primary students regularly check their child’s diaries for any notes, updates or reminders.
Class Dojo is an online program used by Primary class teachers to measure student performance that parents can also view. The program uses a point based system which allows teachers to award them for displaying positive behaviour or for doing good work. Through the program, teachers and parents can interact and message each other. Each student is given their own login details through which parents can be given live updates on their child’s performance. For more information about Class Dojo, check out classdojo.
